Aunt Marj’s Class

‘Aunt Marj’ as she is fondly called has an army of ‘children’ internationally, both young and not-so-young, who love her dearly. These are her ex-Sunday school children, from her children’s ministry which started in the 80s. These children have gone on to build successful careers in ministry and in the marketplace. They include internationally recognised actors, one recognised with a national honour, a COO of a bank, and a Medical Doctor who recently received a United States Award for designing a high frequency data system during the pandemic, among others.

Her children organised a tribute concert for her 50th birthday.

Excerpts from Pastor Marjorie @ 50

A group was created to honor and celebrate an icon of our time, Pastor Marjorie Onengiye Esomowei by her Ex-Sunday School Students.

Pastor Marjorie is a woman of excellence and proven integrity. She has a deep passion for helping people attain their full potentials in life and has led an exemplary life full of purpose. She continues to mentor women and young people with numerous testimonies to show.

No doubt, many of us have been impacted one way or the other by this great woman of God. It is on this premise that we have created this page for use to share memories of our various encounters with Pastor Marj, as we join her in commemorating her 50th Anniversary.

“Behold how good and pleasant it is…….. Mama raised children oooo . was just going thru things again.”

Osarumen David Izevbokun

“yes, she did, oh yes, she did. I am glad to have been raised by her as a child and also in ministry. It was worth it. Today, I can tell, when I meet men of “timbre and calibre”, that it was worth it. It all formed in me, a normal disposition to stand before kings…and not be shaken!!”

Joy Oguchi

“You can say that again. I learnt confidence from her. Now you know why I am never camera shy lol! I can enter any where as you see me so; courtesy of mama.

“A chance encounter heralded her lifelong passion of working with children and love affair with Television. Young Marjorie had gone to a TV station in Nigeria in search of career direction post A-levels. She inadvertently wandered into a recording set. All she saw were a group of children who were distraught because they were told the recording been cancelled as the mixer was not there and the presenter/producer was running late.

‘The children were crying…I started crying too’

“Unbeknownst to her, the Legendary Producer Peter Igho was observing and was impressed. He offered her the job. Marjorie went on to present and produce Children’s Time. She also acted in soap operas. She honed those skills and brought them to the fore in her children’s ministry and TV Programme, Wisdom for Women and other television/media appearances on the BBC and Premier Radio.”
